Report: Time To Act: Mental Health In Early Careers

The City Mental Health Alliance has launched a call to action for businesses, in partnership with Bupa, to encourage better mental health support for those in their early careers.

Report: Time To Act: Mental Health In Early Careers 1

The report argues that businesses have a responsibility and an opportunity to act to support the mental health and wellbeing of their colleagues at the start of their career. It believes that this is not only the right thing to do, but it can also boost recruitment, retention and productivity, which is critical for building a sustainable business.

Key findings

  • Almost three-quarters (72%) of people in early careers have experienced poor mental health in the past year.
  • 28% say that poor mental health has impacted their ability to do their job well.

This report brings together the voices and insights, via a YouGov survey and focus groups, of more than 1,000 young professionals in the first four years of their career. It also has business-led recommendations and examples of good practice.
