Report: Financial security or greater control
A global talent crunch, an ideological shift towards greater work/life balance and the need for an on-demand workforce. The combination of these emerging trends has been driving the growth of the gig economy for the past decade. Add in the COVID-19 global pandemic, and it’s clear to see why the gig economy has disrupted traditional workforce models and will continue to transform the face of tomorrow’s labour market.
When the COVID-19 pandemic first took hold, many businesses created remote workforces, almost overnight. As we recalibrate our perceptions of a truly remote labour force, gig workers can no longer be seen as the second-class citizens of the workplace. We can expect to see changing perceptions about flexible working from both employers and employees. Will this lead to greater flexibility being offered to all workers as standard, or will businesses double down on their journey towards the adoption of more gig workers?
