Webinar: pensions focus – supporting your pre-retirement employees in the time of coronavirus

Register to watch REBA’s latest webinar in its ongoing series looking at the impact of coronavirus on reward and employee benefits.

For those approaching retirement these past few weeks have been a worrying time. Will employees still be able to retire as they had planned? Will they have enough money? What are their options? These are all questions that employers need to be able to support their employees with. REBA's latest webinar addressed all of these issues.

In the fifth webinar of REBA’s coronavirus series, the panel considered the latest market conditions and what these mean for employees expecting to retire, the effect on re-forecasting pensions costs and contributions, as well as how to communicate to employees about their pension, investment and retirement options.

Beyond these issues the panel looked at the importance and role of financial wellbeing, the impact on talent strategies and on staff returning from furlough.

The panel of senior reward and benefits employers and industry experts was chaired by Debi O'Donovan, founder and co-director, REBA. The panellists were:

  • Nigel Baldwin, people development executive, Marshall Group and Pensions Trustee, Thales UK.
  • Jenny Holt, proposition director, Standard Life.
  • Nathan Long, senior pension analyst, Hargreaves Lansdown.
  • Matthew Webb, global head of benefits, Refinitiv.
  • Natasha Wilson, global reward director at Oxford University Press.

Each panellist spoke about what they had been dealing with in their own organisations and their various approaches to supporting employees approaching retirement. They also answered a range of questions from REBA's live audience.

Collectively their overarching message was not to panic and to provide financial wellbeing to the entire workforce, but particularly to those taking retirement decisions.

At this difficult time, we at REBA feel that it is vital the reward and employee benefits community comes to together to share ideas and experiences, and to understand that each of us is not alone in dealing with these complex issues in difficult circumstances. Join REBA as a Professional Member to make use of rebaLINK, our confidential peer-to-peer forum, and gain advice from other reward practitioners about their approach.
