Video tutorial: Tracy Millett of Syngenta & Dr Chris Tomkins of AXA PPP Healthcare share their story

At Syngenta a diverse range of sites, types of workers and roles makes the company’s employees a “complex group to get your arms around from a wellbeing and health point of view,” according to Tracy Millett, lead HR business partner at Syngenta, who was tasked with changing things when she joined the company three years ago.

“Solutions had grown up locally at sites and I had a lot of people that weren’t even at sites,” said Millett. “It felt like a bit of a postcode lottery about what your experience at Syngenta would be like from a health and wellbeing point of view," she told delegates at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2019.

The diversity meant that a one size fits all solution wasn’t going to work, so the company chose to work with Dr Chris Tomkins, chief operating officer – proactive health at AXA PPP Healthcare.

Millett presented the work that the company had done – with a particular focus on mental health. “We were concerned about people’s mental health. It’s a science and manufacturing community [within Syngenta] – neither population particularly well known for talking about mental health or emotions - and it’s always been a bit of a taboo subject within our culture,” she said.

Now the business has mental health champions across all of its sites. “I’m really proud to say we are starting to banish the taboo and open up the culture,” she said.

This video was recorded at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2019, held in London on 20 June.
