Six top ways to turbo charge your wellbeing communications to boost employee engagement

Engagement is the key to all communications. If your target audience isn’t interacting with your content or following your calls to action, then you’ll never be able to achieve your goals. Due to the pandemic, wellbeing is at the forefront of all our minds and it is imperative to keeping your people happy in and outside of the working environment. A happy workforce is a productive workforce!

You may get some engagement through your current wellbeing communications, but as it is such an important element of business success and our personal mental wellness, it might be time to re-think your strategy to take your engagement to the next level.

Review our six point checklist to make sure you’re set up to maximise wellbeing communications engagement.

1. Make sure you have clear objectives

Whatever stage you’re at with your wellbeing strategy, you might want to make sure you know exactly what wellbeing means to employees and what you want to achieve. Do you want to increase employee retention? Decrease absenteeism? Improve levels of financial wellness? You need a good understanding of what you want to achieve to keep a sharp focus on your goals, so you don’t veer off course.

2. Be hyper-specific with your audience

Most of us would have received a communication which is totally irrelevant to us. It can be very damaging to any future comms and the integrity of your project. Especially with important wellbeing matters, you want your audience to actually take notice of what you’re telling them – you should make your wellbeing comms hyper-relevant, with as much precision as possible.

3. Increase the frequency

It may sound simple but increasing the frequency of your wellbeing communications is vital to boosting engagement. Without regular touch points your employee’s motivation and trust can quickly fizzle out. It’s never been more important to keep in close contact and ensure you’re looking after your people as best you can.

4. Create a space for open dialogue

With any type of wellbeing strategy, open lines of dialogue and safe platforms to discuss any issues are key to a successful wellness strategy. Group sessions, social media groups and having people to speak with will help to build trust and community within your organisation. If your people know their employers are proactively looking after their wellness, they are much more likely to engage and interact with future comms.

5. Get backing from your leadership team

It’s important your wellbeing communications are supported by your leadership team. Employees are much more likely to engage with your content if it is directly sent from a senior member of staff. It’s also important for the leadership to share their experiences and fully get behind your wellbeing strategy.

6. Simplify the complex

Take financial wellbeing for example, there is much jargon still used in so many communications which can baffle the majority of the people it’s intended to try and help. Simplify your content as much as you can. You should be questioning every single detail you have written and extract the key points that are really going to hit home with your employees – prioritising what your audience really needs to know.

The key insight to super-charging your wellbeing strategy communication is really making sure you’re doing all of the basics to the best of your ability! If one area falls flat, it’s likely you won’t reach the maximum target you set out to achieve. We all wish there was one quick fix to turbo-charge any type of communication, but truth is it takes time and effort to make sure every aspect is working like a well-oiled machine.
