Research: Two-thirds of boardrooms support the wellbeing agenda
The Employee Wellbeing Research 2019, published by the Reward & Employee Benefits Association (REBA) in association with AXA PPP healthcare, revealed that two thirds (66.5%) of employers’ boardrooms support the wellbeing agenda, while only 9.2% of boards take steps to drive it across the organisation.
Instead, influencing the culture of wellbeing seems to be down to other senior managers, the study found.
Almost three quarters (72.1%) of organisations said top down commitment from other senior management was a key factor in promoting a wellbeing culture. Other important factors cited were the involvement of employees (63.9%) and the use of wellbeing champions in the workforce (58.4%).
The survey of 250 wellbeing, HR and employee benefits specialists highlighted that the most common reason employers introduced a wellbeing plan was to provide support and help to employees when they need it (26.7%).
However, business performance is also a key motivator. One in six (17%) launched a strategy to boost employee engagement, while a similar proportion (15.9%) did so to try and improve the organisational culture.
“The results show there’s a strong pull for organisations in using a health strategy to advance business performance concerns, such as productivity, employee engagement and retention of talent,” said the report.
