REBA Awards Winner: Vanguard - Dr Shaun Davis, Royal Mail
This year's winner is Dr Shaun Davis, global director of safety, health, wellbeing and sustainability, Royal Mail Group.
The Royal Mail Group’s 150,000 workforce is spread across the whole of the UK, delivering to 29 million addresses, 6 days a week. The size, scale and nature of the workforce (which is 82% male) can mean that delivering new wellbeing initiatives is both complicated and complex.
Dr Shaun Davis and his team knew that poor mental health was an issue for the Royal Mail’s workforce, but to address that meant breaking down the stigma of talking openly and equipping staff to be able to engage with their colleagues. This also needed to be more than just an ‘initiative’, it needed to be sustainable and to become part of the culture at Royal Mail.
The directors of REBA have given Dr Shaun Davis our Vanguard Award this year for his outstanding commitment to making real, sustainable wellbeing changes at Royal Mail. The work has involved staff, senior management, unions and other external bodies in creating an appropriate and meaningful programme that fits the mantra of ‘Acknowledge, Communicate and Take Action’.
