Report: Health and wellbeing at work: a survey of employees, 2014

This report, a collaboration between The Work Foundation and NatCen Social Research and commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions, supports the health and work policy programme and was commissioned in response to the recommendations from the Independent Review of Sickness Absence1.

In a poll of more than 2,000 employees the key findings were:

  • Almost a third of employees had a health condition that affected their work in the 12 months preceding the survey
  • Just over a third with a health condition had not discussed it with their employees
  • Around two fifths had experienced at least one period of sickness absence
  • 7% had experienced a period of sickness absence lasing more than two weeks and 5% more than four weeks
