Employee Wellbeing Awards 2020: what the judges are really looking for

The deadline for entering the REBA Employee Wellbeing Awards 2020 is creeping up fast! Writing an entry can seem like a daunting task, where do you start? How do you highlight your achievements in the best possible light? And what are the judges really looking for?

The most obvious way to answer these questions is to go to the source and find out from our awards judges just what they want from entries.

Danni Brackpool, group benefits manager at Sainsburys, says: “It’s really important that an entry identifies very clearly the wellbeing issue they have tackled, why they needed to address it, how/what they implemented and how they measured the success. It’s also good to see where they are thinking of taking things next.

“For me those entries that include an innovative idea, something above and beyond to enhance a standard benefit or an original initiative clearly linked to their own business strategy/needs will stand out.”

For Philip Hutchinson, senior manager total rewards at Deloitte, the must-have factor for a winning award entry is “a robust and transparent strategy and plan that has been clearly articulated so all stakeholders understand and engage with it.”

What’s clear is that the judges aren’t necessarily looking for organisations that have reinvented the wheel. Rather they want to see evidence of how wellbeing initiatives have aligned with wider business strategies, the engagement these have attracted and the results they have achieved.

“I will be looking for tangible benefits, how the wellbeing offering aligns with the organisation and how integrated wellbeing is delivering results,” adds Dr Shaun Davis, global director of safety, health, wellbeing and sustainability at Royal Mail.

This year’s awards judging panel consists of 22 industry professionals and wellbeing experts from organisations including Goldman Sachs, Facebook, Unilever, Shell and BITC.

Entries close on 7th November, with the awards ceremony taking place at Ham Yard Hotel, London on 5th March 2020.
