Emma Bassett on how employers can maximise opportunities brought about by workplace changes

Emma Bassett, client strategy leader at Mercer Marsh Benefits, speaks with REBA's Debi O'Donovan in this exclusive video interview about how employers are assessing the people risks that have been brought about as a result of changing working practices.

Bassett took part in REBA’s exclusive Transform workplace engagement for competitive advantage – why the need to change is urgent breakfast in association with Mercer Marsh Benefits. It brought together senior reward professionals from an array of sectors to discuss the huge workforce changes which are necessitating transformational thinking on employee engagement.

For her, the challenge is clear: “Organisations are having to re-evaluate their culture due to the shift in the way that people are working,” she says.

In the video, she also explains that employers are having to ask key questions around the safety and inclusivity of their culture, as well as on employee wellbeing, and the influence workplace culture has on these factors.

Bassett argues other themes emerging include those around talent management (where shifts are occurring in workforce planning towards a more skills-based approach to support businesses into the future), while reward practices are also needing to adapt to maximise the opportunities occurring as a result of workplace changes.
