Debi’s inside track: a closer look at group health and risk insurances
“We focus so much on prevention – and that’s brilliant, it’s excellent the work that has been done – but perhaps we have left the rehab side behind for a bit,” says O’Donovan.
Rehab services have been around for more than a decade and are invaluable to employees, but O’Donovan questions whether they are fit for purpose for 2019, particularly for mental health-related claims.
Continuing on the theme of group risk insurance, O’Donovan highlights that although some insurances may look the same, there are differences in quality and employers should look very carefully at what they’re buying.
“You could be caught short and undermine your wellbeing programme as an employer if you don’t realise that you haven’t got what you think you bought,” she warns.
Finally, O’Donovan considers what is driving the purchase of health insurances – is it employee want or employee/organisational need?
