CEO on the Sofa: Nick Burns of Gallagher offers his insight into what is keeping CEOs awake at night

Nick Burns, CEO at Gallagher Employee Benefits Consulting Division, recently spoke to REBA's Debi O'Donovan about the need to tackle the real problem keeping CEOs awake at night, and how employee benefits can support and add value.

Nick Burns recently joined Gallagher, having taken a four year break from the employee benefits industry. He believes that during his time away there has been an evolution of employee benefits where they are starting to be ‘badged’ as wellbeing solutions. However, there has not been significant change in the market.

“I’m wondering whether or not the employee benefits market – and even some of the wellbeing initiatives – are really solving the right problem that an employer is facing,” says Burns.

He argues that there needs to be greater connection and communication within businesses between the non-execs, the chief executive, the CFO and the HRD. Only then can organisations really understand what ‘problem’ it is that they are trying to solve and how benefits and wellness solutions help that. This then creates more value with all the work that is going on in the benefits and wellness space.
